Maria Farrell – Little Paws South Down

My name is Cathy and I own Little Paws East Belfast. I currently have 2 classes running with the hope of increasing it to 4 classes this coming January.

Having a child, along with coming from a large family, I have always been surrounded by children. I also worked in my local primary school where I helped with computer courses, I really enjoy helping children learn.

I am a complete dog lover. When I come across the Facebook ad to become a Little Paws business owner I jumped at the opportunity to get to work with dogs and children.  My daughter has now turned 18, she is driving, finishing school, and heading off to university so this was the perfect opportunity to do something for me.  I knew I as soon as I signed up, that I was going to completely love it.

The online training videos are easy to follow, even if you have no dog training experience. Having the visual learning aid is great.  We usually had a week for each set of 5 videos, which gives plenty of time to teach the dog the behaviours. Uploading the videos may feel strange and you will feel nervous to start, but they become second nature. I actually found they made me more confident for taking the actual class.

When training is complete you can begin your advertising and it is so exciting when you get your first bookings. Both my classes sold out and the bookings came in at a steady pace, though the last 3 places at my Wednesday evening classes sold on the actual day,

Taking the first class I was a little nervous, but after all the online training videos it all just flowed. I was so excited at the end of the class and this continued when parents started to message saying their child had fun.

Our online student group has been amazing.  We really helped each other during training.  It was great to watch one another’s videos, get hints, tips and have a good old laugh. We all supported each other getting set up, swapping tips on advertising, discussing venues, to who got the best deals on hula hoops! We really have become a Little Paws family.  We join up on promotional events to help each other out and we recommend each other clubs online, and always point potential customer to their local club. The support has been invaluable and it’s hasn’t all been about business.  There were a few personal challenges along the way and ‘The Girls’ were there with many words of wisdom.

Then we have Juanita, well what can I say?  Nothing is a bother to her.  She is always on hand to help us out with any queries we may have, no matter how big or small. She provides us with all the branding and artwork which looks amazing. The kids and parents love the training workbooks. She invited us to start out on this journey with her, and I cannot thank her enough for this amazing opportunity.

So if you are thinking about starting your own Little Paws Club, and you have a passion for children and dogs, then I would say go for it! Little Paws has been amazing for me I am doing something I dreamt of doing and loving every minute of it!
